Marginal Encerrada - 12 April - Social Bike Ride

Hi Bike Buds! 🚴

#FollowTheCalves 🦵🏻 are socializing on the Marginal this weekend! The Marginal is scheduled to be closed to car traffic for the entire morning of Sunday, 12 April, 2026, in honor of O Dia Mundial da Atividade Física, between Alcântara and Estoril. We will take advantage of this to enjoy a beautiful, relaxed, social ride. There will be many others enjoying the Marginal (runners, kids, events, activities) so it will not be possible to go too fast anyway!

The Plan:

• Meet at the cafe at Estação Fluvial de Belém (Belem Ferry Station). There is a large outdoor area with plenty of tables and space for bikes. I'll be there at 08:30 for coffee and socializing. We plan to depart at 09:00. You might also join us along the Marginal.
• Ride to Estoril and back (approx 40km total) at a relaxed, social pace.
• It is possible that a few of us might go for a swim afterwards and enjoy the sun depending on the weather, and/or more socializing at a cafe afterwards. This is optional.

Trains:

• We often take trains to visit various scenic areas of Portugal, but for this Social Ride no train is necessary, unless you choose to come by Comboios Urbanos to Belem. As always, please note that you are responsible for buying your own train ticket(s), if needed.

Bikes

• We ride road and gravel bikes, but for this social ride any bike will do.

What to bring

• Do not come without water and a helmet!
• An appetite for some ice cream, adventure, and some fun!

• Do you require any special skills? Yes, see route description for fitness required.
• What happens if I get a puncture? We recommend bringing a spare inner tube, tire levers, pump, and a multitool. Failing that, walk to the nearest train stop or taxi to the nearest bike shop / home is the fall back option.
