Can I turn my prototype into a real app?
We’re excited to welcome back Stephanie Battista Hubbard, Head of Innovation at Humanity Innovation Labs and XI Mentor, for the next step in our vibe coding journey: taking a prototype and making it actually work.
From Prototype → Product
You built something. Now what happens when someone actually needs to use it?
Stephanie will kick off the session with a focused, 30-minute exploration of the building blocks that turn a prototype into a functional product. We’ll look at databases, authentication, APIs, AI capabilities, payments, user workflows, and deployment - and how today’s vibe coding tools can help connect the pieces.
Through a live demo, Stephanie will take a simple prototype and add real functionality, showing what it takes to move beyond a great-looking interface toward something people can actually use.
Then it’s your turn to build.
For the remaining 90 minutes, we’ll Level Up Your Build. Bring the prototype you started in September - or start something new - and choose one important piece to make work.
Connect a database. Add user authentication. Integrate an API. Build in an AI capability. Accept a payment. Create a working user flow. Or finally get your app deployed to the web.
You don’t have to finish your entire product. The goal is to make one meaningful leap forward.

This is a hands-on session, so please come ready to jump in:
Bring your laptop + charger. You’ll be building during the session.
Access the Google Doc: Session Prompts. Have it open and ready to reference.
Create a free account with at least one vibe coding platform: Lovable, Bolt, Base44, or Claude.
Bring an idea you want to build. Continue your September prototype or start something completely new.
Save your free usage for the session. These sessions are designed around free plans, many of which have daily usage or token limits that reset each day. Please avoid building or experimenting with your selected vibe coding tool within 24 hours of the meetup so you have as much free usage available as possible when we start.
Wi-Fi will be provided on site. Access information will be available when you arrive.
Come ready to turn “I made this” into “It actually works.”
Show up ready to experiment, build, and see how far you can take your idea in one evening.

Communicating With AI
You know what you want to build. So why does AI sometimes give you something completely different?
Stephanie will kick off the session with a focused, 30-minute exploration of how to give AI the context and direction it needs to produce better results. We’ll go beyond basic prompting and look at how voice, screenshots, sketches, reference websites, examples, design systems, constraints, and iterative feedback can help communicate what you actually mean.
Through a live demo, Stephanie will start with a mediocre AI-generated prototype and dramatically improve it - not by starting over, but by communicating better with AI.
Then it’s your turn to build better.
For the remaining 90 minutes, you’ll work on your own product and experiment with different ways of directing AI. Try stronger prompts. Talk through what you want using voice. Add screenshots, sketches, references, or design systems. Set clearer constraints. Iterate, give feedback, and see how your build changes.
The goal isn’t just to make your product look better. It’s to get better at translating what’s in your head into context AI can understand and act on.
At the end, compare where you started with where you ended up - and see just how much better your build can become when you give AI better direction.

Vibe Coding Challenge Kickoff
Stephanie will kick things off with a fast-paced, 30-minute introduction to our Vibe Coding Challenge. We’ll cover the challenge, rules, constraints, judging criteria, and a few examples of what’s possible when you combine a great idea with today’s AI development tools.
Then, through a quick live demo, Stephanie will start with a blank project and show just how quickly an idea can become something tangible.
Then the clock starts.
The 90-Minute Vibe Coding Challenge
You’ll have 90 minutes to build something - solo or as part of a team.
Choose a problem. Chase an idea. Solve a challenge. Build something useful, interesting, unexpected, or just plain fun.
This is your opportunity to put everything together: ideation, prompting, prototyping, databases, APIs, AI capabilities, design, user experience, deployment, and all the other skills you’ve been developing.
You don’t need to build a polished startup in 90 minutes. The challenge is to see how far you can take an idea when you focus, experiment, and build fast.
When time is up, everyone will have a quick opportunity to demo what they made and celebrate what we built together.
