English Creative Writing | Coffee, Pens, and new friends! - STAGED!

Join us for a cozy and welcoming evening of creative writing in a relaxed café atmosphere.
This is a casual and comfy after work gathering focused on creativity, self expression, and meeting interesting people. We keep the atmosphere comfortable and pressure free, with plenty of opportunities to write, share ideas, and connect with fellow creatives.

Only 8 Meetup guest spots available (we usually also have several members joining from our private community). You can also sign up through our website, where registrations open before Meetup and give you access to spots earlier.

## What are we doing in this session?

We start at 19:30 and spend around 1.5 hours exploring different creative writing activities together.
A typical session may include:

• Short stories based on prompts
• Character creation challenges
• Dialogue and scene writing exercises
• Script and screenplay experiments
• Collaborative storytelling
• Flash fiction and other creative writing formats

Every session is different, keeping things fresh :)

After each writing exercise, anyone who wants to can read their work aloud to the group. Sharing is completely optional as many people simply enjoy writing and listening.

## Who is welcome?

We are a highly inclusive community and a safe space. Everyone is welcome, whether you're:

• A complete beginner
• An experienced writer
• An expat looking to meet people
• Someone who hasn't written creatively in years
• Simply curious about trying something new

The goal is to enjoy the creative process, not to produce perfect writing.
Due to the possibility of adult themes appearing in creative work and discussions, this event is 18+ only. 🔞 🔞 🔞

## Any payments?

The event itself is completely free.
However, we kindly ask participants to support our host venue by purchasing a drink, snack, or something else from the café, as they generously allow us to use their space.

Cafe Kausal accepts both cash and card payments, so no worries there.

## What should I bring?

• A pen and notebook, or a laptop/tablet if you prefer writing digitally (we have extra papers!)
• Your creativity

We meet at Cafe Kausal, a cozy and comfortable café that provides the perfect atmosphere for an after work creative session.

## Any rules?

Please be respectful to all members. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, harassment, or other discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.
We aim to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves creatively.

Furthermore, due to the limited number of places available, guests who fail to show up twice within one month without giving at least 24 hours notice will unfortunately be banned from future events. We hope you understand.

English Improv Jam Düsseldorf - STAGED!

Join us every second Monday for a dynamic English improv jam! For future events, workshops and hangouts, visit our website to stay up to date!

# 🎲 What do we do?

Each session includes a changing mix of games and formats, such as:
• Prompt-based scenes
• Freeze
• Change
• Character and impression prompts
• Emotion and genre switches
• Two-person and group scenes
• Rapid-fire reactions
• Classic short-form improv games
• New formats that we experiment with together
The exact games change every session, so each jam feels slightly different.
The style is partly inspired by Dropout’s Make Some Noise: quick prompts, unusual characters, bold choices and performers fully committing to whatever strange situation they are given.

# 💥 What is an improv jam?

An improv jam is a facilitated but informal session where people come together to create scenes without scripts or preparation.
You receive a prompt, step into the scene and discover what happens together.

# ⏱️ What does a session look like?

We begin with around 10 to 15 minutes of practical warm-ups focused on listening, reacting, movement and becoming comfortable with making quick choices.
After that, we move into short-form games and prompt-based scenes.
The pace is intentionally dynamic.

# 🌱 Is it beginner-friendly?

Yes. You do not need any previous acting, comedy or improv experience! Come and train your improv muscles.
This event is suitable for:
• Complete improv beginners
• Experienced improvisers looking for a regular jam
• Actors wanting to become more spontaneous
• Comedians interested in characters and scene work
• Expats, internationals and locals wanting to make new friends
The event is held entirely in English.
Because improvised scenes may sometimes include adult themes, the event is for people aged 18 and above.

# 👕 What should I bring?

Bring comfortable clothing, some water and a willingness to make unusual choices in front of friendly strangers.

# 🤝 A few important rules

Please treat your fellow participants and their ideas with respect.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and other discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated.
Improv can move into unexpected territory, but participants should always remain aware of personal boundaries.
Physical contact should never be assumed. Anyone may step out of a scene or exercise when needed.
Please do not photograph or record participants without their permission.
Because places are limited, please update your RSVP if you can no longer attend. Repeated no-shows without notice may result in removal from future events.
