🥾 Hike: Anthony’s Nose via Camp Smith Trail
Location: Hudson Highlands, NY (near Peekskill)

Elevation Gain: ~1,800 ft
Difficulty: Moderate (borderline hard for some due to sustained climb)
Time: 3–4 hours
Description:
This route to Anthony’s Nose via the Camp Smith Trail offers a more challenging and rewarding approach than the shorter out-and-back options. We’ll climb steadily through wooded terrain, with several steeper and rockier sections that will get the heart rate up before reaching the famous overlook.
At the summit, we’re rewarded with one of the most iconic views in the Hudson Highlands—an expansive panorama of the Hudson River with the Bear Mountain Bridge front and center. The extra effort on this route makes the payoff feel even better.
What to Expect:
- Sustained uphill climb with some steep, rocky sections
- A solid workout (this is not a casual stroll)
- Scenic forest sections before opening to dramatic views
- One of the best viewpoints in the region
What to Bring:
- Hiking shoes with good grip (rocky terrain)
- Plenty of water (at least 1 liter is recommended)
- Snacks or light lunch
- Optional: trekking poles (helpful on descent)
Notes:
Please arrive 10-15 min prior to a scheduled start. We’ll keep a steady but manageable pace and regroup as needed. This hike is best suited for those comfortable with elevation gain and uneven and rocky terrain.
