"Your Brain Hates Product Management"
You’re a really good PM, we all know that. You even use an established process and have some fancy software to help. So why do things never seem to go quite as expected? We can blame the nature of digital work or the usual scapegoat - clients - but it’s actually all in our heads. Literally. Our brains are simply not naturally wired for product management. This session will explore this reality by drawing on the fields of psychology, neuroscience and behavioural economics and applying it to product management. We’ll look at some real life examples, do a few experiments of our own, and learn how to counter the misguided tendencies of our brains.
Carson is a project manager at Yellow Pencil, co-runs the Digital Project Managers (DPM) Edmonton Meetup, and plays hockey very poorly.
Q: When do you meet and what do you do?
A: Product Edmonton formats will iterate and evolve as needed, and the constant will be a regular bi-monthly Meet Up (with killer presentations) at Startup Edmonton on the first Monday of every second month. On top of that, there will also be other events like...
- workshops and tutorials 🎓
- panel discussions and topic-specific deepdives 🔬
- collaborations with other like-minded meetups and organizations 🤗
- some good, old-fashioned nerding out over a 🍺or two
Q: Who should go to this? Is this just for Product Managers?
A: Our name is specifically open-ended, due to the wide number of disciplines that this all relates to. Whether you are a product leader, product manager, designer, developer, strategist, business analyst, project manager, UX enthusiast, account manager, content strategist, marketer, data person, etc., we all have things to both offer and learn. 👍
Q: I'm thinking of getting into Product but I have no experience. Am I welcome at this event.
A: Yes, you are especially welcome here.🏅
Q: Do you have a Slack Channel for Product-related/Product Manager chatting, job postings, favourite articles, advice, etc.? A: Of course we do, and we would be stoked if you join it: https://goo.gl/forms/XFeBbI7d44uJWgu02 🙏
