Dread/ Down River / Brookline RPG Day 11
Details
You've done this trip a dozen times. Same friends, same river, same weekend. But the dock you wake up on isn't the one you left from — and the town at the end of it isn't on the map.
Down River is a Dread one-shot set-in a near-empty town that doesn't want to be understood. Dread is a horror RPG that replaces dice with a Jenga tower: every action that carries risk requires a pull. The tower stays up, you keep going. The tower falls, something goes very wrong. It's one of the most effective tension engines in tabletop horror — and it works on people who've never played an RPG before.
The session draws from survival horror in the vein of Resident Evil and Silent Hill: atmospheric, oppressive, and deeply invested in the question of whether you make it out.
- Jenga tower mechanic: physical tension replaces dice rolling
- Atmospheric horror with social and investigative elements
- Survival-focused — the town is not on your side
- Inspired by classic survival horror video games
Content note: This session contains horror content.
No RPG experience needed. Characters are partially prepared — some choices remain yours at the table.
