STG Social Hikes

this is a short but very steep trail with some exposure. 1.4 miles round trip, 700’ climb. the views are amazing. there is an ancient medicine wheel to see. also an aviation arrow, from a bygone era which I can tell you all about…

6.5 miles, 1000’ gain.
Zen trail is a loop hike featuring a great rim overlook. I expect it will take 3+ hours. The hike is all on trail, with semi-gradual climb up the ridge. lots of fun sandstone boulders to see. one spot Is called hippopotamus cave, but It’s not a real cave. It is, however, a very cool area to explore!

there is much construction near the trailhead. down the hill on the dirt road and toward the transformer station. there is a sign for zen wall parking.

3.5 miles, 200’ gain. This hike is in snow canyon state park. there is a day use fee, or better yet, buy a year pass and hike here as much as you like!

this trail used to be called three ponds, the name got changed to red sands. my guess, too many people complaining that there was no water, no ponds, and barely an impression in the sand. but, just like the rest of our desert home, they fill up with every monsoon, then evaporate over the next week or two.

Let's go hike the Hell Hole Trail in Kayenta.
This is a 4.0 mile out and back hike with 265' of climbing. It is rated moderate and we will do it at a moderate pace. we will stay out of the rugged wash on a side trail most all the way. there will be some optional scrambling at the end of the trail. We are not likely to see the water falls as shown in the feature photo at this time of the year.
