STG Social Hikes

6.5 miles, 1000’ gain.
Zen trail is a loop hike featuring a great rim overlook. I expect it will take about 3 hours. The hike is all on trail, with semi-gradual climb up the ridge. lots of fun sandstone boulders to see. one spot Is called hippopotamus cave, but It’s not a real cave. It is, however, a very cool area to explore!

Ship Rock - Virgin River Gorge
Sat. Mar 15th 2024 10:00 am - 1:30 pm Mtn Day Time
RT ~4 miles Gain: ~950 ft.
Hike Limited to 12 people including leader.
No Pets
Meet: 10:00 am I-15S. in Arizona Exit 27 Black Rock Rd Exit
This is 3 miles south of the UT border ~20 min. South of St George.
Off ramp from I-!5 S go right at Stop sign and 1/4 mile left at dirt lot.
Then We will car pool to the parking area on the north bound side of I15 by
Traveling south on I15 and making U-turn at exit 18 Cedar Pocket and
Head north to parking area near mm23.

Moderate pace; Mostly Class 1; Brief Class 2 segments.
Bush whacking and rocky trail segments.
Some very narrow trail segments with brief exposure / steep drops.
This hike boasts beautiful vistas of the Virgin River Gorge and
colorful majestic peaks along the Gorge.
First Stop: the massive red stone Ship Rock; Like a giant cruise ship.
An easy climb onto the Rock will allow time for snack and views.
Altazar, professional singer, may even share a song or 2.
We’ll then head back same route.
Forecast to be in the 60’s; Sunny; pleasant.

3.8 miles, 460 ft. elevation gain. I expect this hike will take just over 2 hours to complete. The featured photo is from a previous group hike at this location. Great views from paradise rim!
