Hike into May - 4 days on Upplandsleden from Jänna to Gimo, 91km ☘️🌸🌷

Details

This will be a four days hike on less crowded but more remote Upplandsleden. We will take us from Länna (Section 4) to the end of Section 10 in Gimo from where busses go about every hour that can take us back to Stockholm. There is a train to Uppsala leaving Stockholm at 8:40 on Saturday from central station. Be there or be square.

The plan is to spend the first night at Södersjön (15km), then continue to Stor-Tickuln's shelter (23km) on section 7. The third day will lead us to a very nice shelter at Kolarmoråan at the end of section 9 (23km). This leaves us with a strenuous 30km to Gimo on our last day.

You should be comfortable with spending three nights outdoors and be able to carry enough food for four days. Given the total distance this hike will rather be on the challenging side. Make sure you can carry your load up to 25km a day for four days in a row.

What you should bring:

Tarp/Tent (see below), backpack, warm sleeping bag, sleeping pad, warm clothes (especially the evenings can be chill, eg: hat, gloves, fleece or puffy), good shoes (no boots required, the terrain will be quite rocky at times though), food for four days (3 * breakfast, 4 * lunch, 3 * dinner, snacks). Maybe a small stove in case you want to eat warm meals.

Please try to share as much equipment as you can. It will lighten your load and keep our footprint and impact on the trail minimal. So please consider sharing tents and kitchens for instance.

A few words on equipments since we want to cover quite a distance during those days.

Please try to keep your pack-weight down as much as possible (more on that later).
This will allow you to wear lighter shoe-ware. Please try to avoid wearing heavy boots except that you really know you can cover the distance without problem.
Rather look at trail-runners or hiking shoes if you have. But of course they need to offer some grip and be suited for outdoor use.

I'm aware that reducing pack-weight might not be feasible as easily since you shouldn't have to buy new gear or anything. But what you can do is let unnecessary things at home (https://sectionhiker.com/lighten-up-your-backpack-eliminating-non-essentials/). Double check if whatever you pack is the lightest option you have (kitchen scales are your friend) and make sure you really need what you pack. Leave that extra book or your e-book reader at home. You won't have time for that anyway. You won't need 750ml of shower gel or deodorant, if at all. That extra heavy knife? Chances are we're not going to hunt down bears or chop down forests (https://lnt.org).

In this context the most weight can be saved by being very careful about which clothes to bring to the trail. Familiarise yourself with how to dress in layers (https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/layering-basics.html). In short your clothes should be able to add up and not to be used mutually exclusive. This leaves you with a high degree of flexibility at a very low weight (eg. https://andrewskurka.com/2015/backpacking-core-clothing-thirteen-3-season-conditions/). Again, if you have more than one option use your kitchen scales!

For inspiration I'll post my own pack-list here (subject to change). Please take it with a grain of salt. I'm very minimalistic and I spend quite some time and efforts into planning and preparation. Just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for you too. https://lighterpack.com/r/4zwzfg

If you feel uncertain or are unsure about what to bring and what to leave at home please don't hesitate to ask. Either here in the comments below or in a private message.
