Unplug and join us for a three-day venture into the wild forests of Mälarmården. We’ll cover roughly 12 km per day, totaling about 35 km along sections 15:1, 15, 16, and 16:1 of Sörmlandsleden, from Åkers Styckebruk to Läggesta.

The rift valley terrain around Marvikarna, characterized by steep ridges and deep lakes, is widely considered one of the most scenic stretches of the Sörmlandsleden. Here, you'll encounter lakes, viewpoints and serene wetlands, alongside a piece of living history at the Skottvång Mine.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 — Friday, 1 May
From Åkers Styckebruk, we head south through a rugged landscape, passing Strålsjömossen, a bog, as well as several lakes. We plan to camp by one of the lakes, perhaps Älskaren or Bredsjön.
  • Day 2 — Saturday, 2 May
We continue east, passing three water sources during the day. We pass the inn at Skottvång Mine, and from there, we turn north via Millsjön towards Marvikarna, where we’ll find the next campsite. Here, we’re met with views of the steep slopes shaped by the rift valley landscape.
  • Day 3 — Sunday, 3 May
After breakfast we continue north towards Läggesta. There are no water sources along this stretch.

Pack Weight
A light backpack makes hiking easier, more fun, and safer. A heavy pack can slow you down and drain your energy. To keep it light, bring only what you need and choose light gear. Saving weight on the heaviest items, sleeping bag, backpack, and tent, makes the biggest impact. Leave all the ”nice-to-haves” at home. Keep the weight under 15 kg, aiming ideally for around 10-12 kg.

Water
We recommend bringing a container with about 1 liter of water, along with a water filter so you can refill along the way. There are several lakes and other water sources along the path. It might be a good idea to have the capacity to carry an extra liter of water.

Food
We suggest opting for foods with lower water content to manage weight more effectively. For lunch, consider convenient, easily prepared freeze-dried options. For dinner, when there's more time available for cooking, you can explore a wider range of meal choices. Why not prepare something extra special for the first dinner?

Gear
Night temperatures can be a bit chilly, so it's a good idea to have a warm sleeping mattress as well as a warm sleeping bag. If you don't have the right gear, do not despair! There are multiple places that you can rent good quality gear from. Hygglo (private rental) may have some options. Other good options include Naturkompaniet's rental and Hygglo, where you can also rent lightweight camping gear, including a tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and cooking equipment..
