SkeptiCal Conference (Oakland)

SkeptiCal is the scientific skepticism conference brought to you by Northern California Skeptics.

The SkeptiCal Conference brings stimulating and entertaining speakers to a world-wide audience of science fans, critical thinkers, and, in the words of Carl Sagan, questioners of “extraordinary claims”. Join us for an engaging day of speakers and discussions. And – test your wits at SkeptiCal’s popular Skepardy! game.

• Erica Byrne – Everyday Acts of Science and Skepticism: chemical engineer and skeptic activist, encourages simple daily actions to rebut misinformation (e.g. letters, volunteering)

• Ross Blocher – investigator/podcaster reflecting on belief formation and cult dynamics

• Molly Bentley & Seth Shostak – Podcasting Skepticism: SETI astronomer & skeptical podcast host team up to talk science communication
• Kyle Polich – Enhance!: data/science educator and host of BrainStuff, exploring evidence-based improvement of critical thinking
• Jim Underdown – Four Miracles: investigative skeptic and executive director of CFI‑Los Angeles, on debunking implausible claims

🎫 Tickets

Admission is $75 (adult) and $25 (student), but there is a $25 discount (for adults) if you purchase your ticket before August 1.

Tickets should be purchased online (in advance) through their website.

🎊 Oakland Chinatown StreetFest

The Oakland Chinatown 36th StreetFest will be happening that same day. This event is known for having lots of food vendors.

🚘 Parking

Traffic and parking may be challenging. Because of the event, if you plan to drive, it is strongly recommended that you reserve your parking through sites such as Parkopedia (for parking at the venue) or Spot Hero (for other parking lots) after purchasing your tickets.
