This event is being hosted on my new group The Cambridge Platonists, so please join that group to attend. Thanks!

In this session, we’ll listen to the closing myth of Plato’s Republic (about 35 minutes), where the soldier Er returns from death and describes the judgment of souls, reincarnation, the choosing of future lives, and the great spindle that governs the order of the cosmos.

After listening, we’ll open a discussion around questions such as:

  • What does this myth teach about responsibility and choice?
  • How does Plato reconcile fate with free will?
  • What does it mean to “choose a life” — and are we doing that now?

No prior familiarity with Plato is required — just curiosity, goodwill, and a willingness to dialogue together.
