Welcome to Stoics & Social.
This is a group for anyone who wants to meet new people through meaningful conversation, practical philosophy, and good company.
We explore timeless Stoic principles, like focusing on what is within our control, facing challenges with a clear mind, and living with intention, and talk about how they show up in our everyday routines and decisions. Whether you're a creative, a founder, a tradesperson, or just someone who enjoys a good conversation, you belong here.
What to Expect
We meet once a month to talk, play games, and hang out.
- The Discussion: We start with 30 minutes to an hour of relaxed, no pretension conversation. A few philosophical questions and modern dilemmas are set out on the tables as conversation starters. There's no pressure to get through them all or to debate. Move around and trade perspectives, or sit back, listen, and enjoy.
- The Social: Once the questions wrap up, we set the heavy thinking aside and settle into a regular social night. The venue has billiards, darts, board games, and an open DJ deck.
Group Guidelines
- Be respectful: We're here to share different perspectives. You don't have to agree with everyone, but you do need to respect everyone's opinions and experiences.
- No selling or promotion: This isn't a business event. Leave the pitch at the door and focus on getting to know people.
- No academic background needed: Bring an open mind, not a textbook.
Location & Entry
We meet at the Anza Club, a relaxed private social club.
- Entry fee: Non-members pay a $5 drop-in fee at the door, or you can buy a $15 annual membership that covers entry for the whole year. (This fee goes directly to the venue, not to our group.)
