What we’re about
South Texas Off Road Mountain-Bikers (STORM) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization representing thousands of mountain bikers. As the oldest and leading mountain bike advocacy organization in San Antonio and surrounding areas, we like to ride our bikes off-road and work to increase the opportunities to do so by advocating access to trails on public and private land. We support responsible mountain biking by adopting sustainable trail practices that ensure our sport’s future.
The STORM Meetup group will update you regarding group rides, STORM Trail Crew workdays, and other events.
Rides are canceled for wet weather and muddy trails, but trail workdays may proceed as planned. Please RSVP to the meetup event, where we will post any updates regarding the cancellation of events. For trail workdays, please sign up through the Golden Volunteer link to be notified of updates and cancellations.
Rebel Betties - Social Rides
Our Rebel Betties - Women’s Mountain Biking group hosts women-only rides focused on fun and skill development. The Rebel Betties meet every Wednesday in the Spring/Summer when it stays light later depending on weather and trail conditions. Riders hit the trail with experienced ride leaders. Rides are designed to be fun for ALL skill levels. Please note that these rides are for adults only. We encourage girls under 18 to join a local NICA MTB program or similar youth programs.
All-Level Group Rides
All mountain bikers are welcome to join our weekly rides every Thursday evening at either OP Schnabel Park/Leon Creek Greenway (Spring/Summer) or McAllister Park (Fall/Winter), depending primarily on when it gets dark. Rides are designed for all skill levels, with ride leaders to show you the way and keep everyone together. Please note that these rides are for adults only. We encourage youth under 18 to join a local NICA MTB program or similar youth programs.
STORM Kids – Monthly Rides
All youth with a trail-worthy bike (no training wheels or strider/balance bikes) and helmet are encouraged to join us on the first Saturday of the month to ride some trails at McAllister Park.
STORM Trail Crew - Building and Maintaining Trails
The STORM Trail Crew hosts trail workdays throughout the year. We train all trail volunteers to help us maintain and grow our trails responsibly and sustainably. We provide all the tools and safety equipment. Volunteers are expected to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes and bring gloves and eye protection if they have it.

https://x.gldn.io/e/mLEcZO0hyRbJoin the STORM Trail Crew and REI to work on building, maintaining, and improving the natural surface trails.
Use different hand tools like McLeods, pick mattocks, pruning loppers/saws, string trimmers, etc. and learn proper trail building/maintenance techniques.
Wear clothing appropriate for trail work, including closed-toe shoes, work gloves, safety glasses, and long pants, depending on the work to be performed. Bring a hydration pack or reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. It's good to bring a pack of some type to carry items, as you may not have hands free to carry your water, etc. Bring sunscreen and/or bug spray as conditions warrant. We will have a limited supply of work gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, and ear plugs available. Water and snacks will also be provided.
The night before, registered volunteers will receive an email with additional details for the workday or a cancellation in case of bad weather and/or muddy trails.
