Street Portrait Workshop

This workshop is all about Street Portraits.
A street portrait is a photo of someone taken in a public space, often with their awareness and brief cooperation. It blends the spontaneity of the street with the intention of portraiture—natural light, real settings, and honest human connection.
It’s not just about knowing your camera; it’s about building the confidence to connect with your subjects and create striking, well-composed portraits that tell a story.
We’ll start with some theory and practical techniques, then practice with each other to build your skills before approaching strangers for portraits.
And of course, you're free to take these newly learned skills to the streets and put them into practice during the session!
I’ll also share my personal tips to help you capture compelling shots with ease.

A digital handout will be provided after the workshop as a reference, so you can revisit key lessons anytime.
Throughout the session, you'll also explore composition, camera settings, and how to work with natural light to enhance your portraits.

About the teacher
Kevin has been developing his career in photography with a focus on urban and environmental portraits, as well as abstract photography for print. In addition to his personal work, he organizes street photography walks and teaches at UAL and the RCA.

Cost
The cost for this workshop is £35, plus fees (Meetup adds a fee on top of the ticket price).
Payments should be made through the Meetup platform. Please note that this event is non-refundable unless the organiser cancels it. Booking is required. The event is also advertised on Eventbrite, and my other Meetup Page.

Recommendations
The focus of this walk will be on handheld street photography, so feel free to bring any camera or smartphone—just make sure your batteries are fully charged. It’s also a good idea to check the TFL website for travel updates before heading out.

Bad Weather
If the weather is less than ideal, the workshop will still go ahead in the rain, with some adjustments to the route. The event will only be cancelled by the organiser in case of severe weather conditions.

Experience
No prior experience is necessary—everyone is welcome! While there will be limited time for technical support, I’m happy to offer creative advice during the walk.
