About us
Stroke of Luck Golf Group is an INTERMEDIATE, FUN GOLF group with FUN AND FRIENDLY COMPETITIONS! The group strives to hold two events each month. The competition element is optional, and members may opt out and just enjoy fun golf. Stroke of Luck does require all members to have an SCGA index through our group. New member dues are $111 including your SCGA index and $100 for renewals which also includes your SCGA index.
Experienced INTERMEDIATE or better golfers with proper etiquette are welcome to join. Our organizers have a reputation for hosting excellent golf events at a WIDE variety of courses that always include a fun 19th hole and prizes and raffles!!!
Each month, one event is designated as a “Club Qualifier,” during which Low Gross and Low Net scores are recorded for both Men and Women. Each Club Qualifier selects four new qualifiers who are invited to the year-end Club Championship.
The other events each month rotates between the “Shamrock Series” which occurs 6 times during the year, and any Special Outings, including multi-day events such as Team Cup 2-day, La Quinta 4-day, St. George 4-day, Wisconsin ‘Bucket List’ and any other inspiring ventures.
Most events also include games or competitions such as closest to the pin. Prize money is awarded after the Club Championship each year.
The Stroke of Luck golf group uses the Meetup platform to announce events and allow members to RSVP for upcoming opportunities as well inviting new members to request to join the group at (https://www.meetup.com/en-US/). You can find us by searching Groups and/or typing in Stroke of Luck. The request is subsequently submitted to the SCGA website for processing and payment of dues. You can also request to join directly at the SCGA website (https://newfrontier.scga.org/).
Additionally, Stroke of Luck maintains an independent website (https://strokeoflucksd.com/) which provides more detailed club information than is available on the Meetup and the SCGA websites.

A NEW Road Trip with Wine Tasting
Location not specified yetHey Stroke of Luck Golfers - WE HAVE A NEW ROAD TRIP!
David Spinelli has been raving about Rustin Canyon and Soule Park, so we nominated him to organize a trip! This will be a 2 to 3 night/day road trip starting out on Thursday/Friday September 24th/25th with a journey up to Thousand Oaks to our accommodation of choice.
On Friday we will play Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai with tee times starting at 9 am and then spend the later afternoon with a wine tasting and finish up with a group dinner near our accommodations. Here is a link to the course.
Soule Park Golf Course | Public Golf Club | Ojai, CA - Home
On Saturday/Sunday we will play Rustic Canyon and make our way back home to the south from there.
Rustic Canyon Golf Course | Moorpark, CA - Home
And a bonus for some of you, both courses are walkable.
David's intent was to keep the cost of this trip low so he budgeted around $275 for 2 days of golf. However, this plan has changed due to a tournament at Soule Park Golf Course on Saturday. It would be slow golf following a tournament which is not for us.
This event is now a partner eclectic with 2 rounds of golf at Rustic Canyon (this course is more expensive) on Saturday and Sunday and a warm up round at Soule Park On Friday with tee times starting at 9 am. The wine tasting will be a separate payment and may be direct to the chosen establishment...so TBD. The Total for three days of golf is $425.00. If you wish to opt out of Friday golf then the golf cost is reduced to $330. This will be paid to Stroke of Luck thru Zelle or Venmo and will be due August 15th.
Since everyone has hotel points and preferred choices for hotels it is best that each player make their own accommodation arrangements. Area choices include (prices as of this posting):
- Hampton Inn & Suites Thousand Oaks @ $166/night
- TownePlace Suites Thousand Oaks by Marriott @ $175/night
- Courtyard Thousand Oaks by Marriott @ $201/night
- La Quinta by Wyndham @ $136/night
- Palm Garden Hotel @ $163/night (looks cute according to David)
The courses have room for 16 players at this time, so don't wait to sign up or the space may be GONE!
