Hike Description:
See Canyon Trailhead is near the town of Christopher Creek east of Payson. This is an out and back route which generally follows the riparian area of Christopher Creek, wandering through tall pines, meadows filled with ferns/hostas/briars and wildflowers. It crosses Christopher Creek several times - it is small and easily crossed on steppingstones. The trail rises through a slot in the Mogollom Rim with the turn around point at the top of the rim at 7800 feet elevation. The destination is not the highlight of this trail, rather it's the trail itself with beautiful views of the Tonto and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Flora and fauna abound, albeit illusive. The area has many songbirds, elk, deer, horses, squirrels, trout and other denizens which may be spotted on this hike.
