MODERATE PLUS: RIDGELINE & MARCOS DE NIZA TRAILS IN A LOOP HIKE AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARK
Hike leader : David Coffman
Trailhead: Pima Canyon Parking lot which has multiple trails
Description: Loop
In 2024 the trail on Marcos De Niza was changed adding a spur trail around the rock face to make the trail safer and easier in this area.
The first 2 miles of the trail has gradual grades and descents with views of the golf course, several trails and hills in South Mountain Park. We continue hiking to the start of the Ridgeline Trail which is a mile of ascents and descents with great views of Phoenix and Tempe. We continue hiking crossing the National Trail to the rock ramada structures where we have a snack break before ascending to the ridge of the Marcos de Niza Trail which we follow to the parking lot.
Like all South Mountain hikes the trail consists of loose rocks and uneven surfaces so good hiking shoes and poles are recommended.
