EARLY DEPARTURE Motivated: McDowell's Tom's Thumb/Windgate/East End Loop

7AM departure.

Motivated: Tom's Thumb/Windgate/East End loop with a bonus in & out to the Lookout point.

This route features three major climbs. We’ll start at the Tom’s Thumb Trailhead (north side), passing scenic viewpoints and unique rock formations on our way up to Lookout Point, where Windgate Pass stretches out beneath us. From there, we’ll descend the 32 switchbacks to the Windgate Pass Trail for our second climb over the pass. After a gentle descent, we’ll tackle the third climb up East End before looping back to the trailhead.

This will give us about 10.6 miles with 3100 ft. of accumulated elevation. It's a bit challenging, but a perfect hike to burn off some of those holiday calories and set the year to a great start.
