Moderate - Tonto/Hawes Southwest Trails
This hike is a loop hike and links the Lower Mine, Granite, Mo Ridge, Ridge, Upper Ridge, Saddle, Secret, Saguaro and Upper Mine Trails. These trails provide good views of Red Mountain and the Salt River from an 1825 ft. elevation. The trail surface is mostly crushed rock/sand with rocky areas and several steep descents. The hike starts out with a steady climb; then several steeper sections as we climb to an entrance to an abandoned gold mine shaft. Hiking poles recommended. This hike provides a good workout.
