SDG Jr: Intermediate JavaScript - Intro to Angular Framework (ages 13-17)

Details

Suncoast Developers Guild Jr. is hosting a free 4-week Intermediate JavaScript Development: Intro to Angular Framework for students between the ages of 13-17.

This course has been designed for any young learners who already have some experience with basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and are interested in learning how to utilize the Angular framework to develop fully functional web applications. The course is meant to be a high-level look at some of the most commonly used features and how to create a web application using the newest API’s, patterns and tools used by modern Front-end developers.

Come with the willingness and ability to learn and collaborate with your fellow coders! This course will be a fun and exciting introduction to one of the most ubiquitous frameworks at use on the Front-end today, and could become the basis for a lifelong hobby or career in the fast-paced world of software development!

This is a FREE 4 week* course every Monday from January 7th to February 4th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.

*There will be no class on January 21st for Martin Luther King Day.

Please sign up and tell us the name and age of your child(ren) attending.

If you sign up and later find out your child cannot attend, please let us know immediately, so that your RSVP can be changed and opened up for other students.

Please read the FAQs below as they may answer your questions. For additional questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators at kids@suncoast.io.

FAQs:

  1. What age group is this class appropriate for?
This class is open to all students between 13-17 years old. Please remember, a parent or a guardian is required to remain with the student for the entirety of the course for students under the age of 16.

  2. What kind of computer will the students need?
We recommend having either a Mac or Windows machine that has the most up to date OS. MacOS should be Mojave; Windows OS would be Windows 10. Computers should have a minimum of 25GB available HD space, be high-speed wireless capable and at least 4GB of RAM (8 preferred) with a processor speed of at least 2GHz. These recommendations will allow for the fastest and easiest setup as we jump right into creating our first applications.

  3. Is there anything to install before the class?
We recommend installing globally Node and the Angular CLI before the day classes begin. Instructions are available at https://angular.io/guide/quickstart

We also recommend installing Visual Studio Code which is a free code editor with excellent support for the types of projects we will be building. Once installed, you can add some add-ons for the editor to include Angular and Typescript support and snippets, but these are generally optional. Have fun setting up your dev environment as you see fit as VSCode is highly customizable with themes, as well as through edits to settings and preferences!

  1. What is the cost of the class?
FREE. Suncoast Developers Guild believes that programming must be accessible at all ages, and kids classes are one way we inch toward making that belief a reality.

  2. What do students need to know before taking the class?
This course is an Intermediate class, a previous understanding of basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is recommended.

  3. Are there homework/tests/grades in the class?
Our goal is for students to have a great time learning and playing with new tools and ideas. There are no tests, grades or homework. That said, we do expect students to be engaged in every class.

  4. How do I register?
RSVP here! Make sure you register for any children that will be attending (your rsvp counts for one child, you can increase your guest count for additional children). You are RSVPing for all 4 Monday Nights for 4 weeks by RSVPing for this meetup.

After your RSVP, please complete the questionnaire and consent form.
