Faux Fall Hike Annutteliga Hammock WSF

The weathermen say we'll have a hint of fall weather, this weekend. So, I'll be heading a little north and putting a boot on the trail to see how right they are. :-) Who'd like to join me on a 5-Mile Walk in the forest?

Annutteliga Hammock Trail is located in the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. Please do not confuse this with the Annuttegliga Hammock Conservation Area, which is well west of here, near the Gulf of Mexico.

We'll start this hike right at 8:30a. Thanks to the Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Trail Assocation. This trail is well-marked & maintained. It is canopied by a mix of hardwoods, slight elevation changes and with a karst landscape it makes for an interesting and scenic hike. We'll do a counterclockwise loop of approximately 5 miles. Always, a possibility of seeing wildlife and if we're lucky, maybe wildflowers are starting to bloom. This will be a relaxed and casual hike. We will not hesitate to stop and take in some sights. If you have the need to maintain a 3+ mph pace or you're in a hurry. This hike is not for you.

Directions: Please note the address is for directional purposes only. The trailhead is just south of the Baptist Church. If you're coming from the south, it is approximately 2 miles north of Hwy 98, lefthand side, on Citrus Way, If you're coming from the north the trailhead is approximately 1 mile south of Stagecoach Rd. on the righthand side. It's hard to miss the trailhead sign. There are no restrooms or water at the trailhead.

In order to participate in this event, you must carry hydration with you. Other items you may want to bring; snacks, hat, sunglasses, closed toe shoes, sunscreen, bug repellant, ground cloth for sitting, towel, camera. Or anything else that will make you comfortable on the trail
