KAYAK/SUP - Cockroach Bay Preserve State Park

Cockroach Bay Preserve State Park is a series of islands in the southeast region of Tampa Bay. The islands are accessible only by water. There are two kayak paddling trails that meander through the aquatic preserve that surrounds the islands.
The islands total acreage is 617; of that 500 acres are mangrove swamp. It is a paradise for anglers and bird watchers. Horseshoe crabs were once so abundant that early Spanish explorers called them cockroaches, believing them to be seagoing cousins of the insects. Many people believe that how Cockroach Bay received it's unlikely name.
Because of the distance, (approx. 6 miles) it is intended for intermediate paddlers.
Please arrive by 8:30 am. We will launch at or before 9:00 am. Arrive on time so as to not be left behind!
There are no facilities at the launch site. However, before you turn on to Cockroach Bay Road (from Rt. 41), there is a "Circle K" gas station with restrooms.
There is no kayak rental at this location.
No guests or +1's allowed on this trip.
Upon Arrival: Please sign in on the "Participant Liability Waiver" BEFORE you get into your kayak if you have not signed one in the past year with me.
This is a popular boat launch so please launch your kayak on the sandy beach (to the right of the boat launch).
Don't forget to bring: PFD and whistle (both required by law), water, bug spray, sunscreen, water shoes, snacks, etc.
Caution: Do not leave/lock valuables in your car (wallet, phone, etc.) .
