What we're about

The Sunday Alternative is an inclusive secular community that meets regularly to celebrate life with great music, ideas and community outreach.

The Sunday Alternative is an excellent way to meet new people.

Upcoming events (4+)

October's Coffee and Catch-up

Needs a location

Join us for coffee and a chat at The Reading Biscuit Factory. We'll be in the middle of the large seating area on the first floor.

The Sunday Alternative is a secular community based on nothing more than a celebration of life in all its highs and lows.

Our main event is a monthly assembly on the 4th Sunday of the month (except August) but we've found friendships bind faster if people have opportunities to meet outside of the assembly too. Also, some find it easier to come to an Assembly the first time if they know a few faces from the coffee mornings.

The coffee morning is very well attended by people of all ages and backgrounds.

Wheelchair accessible. (There have been problems with the lift previously so we recommend phoning ahead just to make sure)

The actual full Assembly will be taking place on the last Sunday of the month (except August). We would love to have more helpers for that. If you want to know more please chat to Stephen, Lynda, Dave, Halima or anyone else that seems to know what they are talking about. People who help with the Assembly get the most out of the group - this is where the friendships are made.

SA Book Club: The Herd by Emily Edwards

Needs a location

Join us for a drink and a friendly discussion about this month's book, which is The Herd by Emily Edwards. We are meeting upstairs at Reading Biscuit Factory, Unit 1a Oxford Rd, Broad St, Mall, Reading RG1 7QE.

Two best friends

Elizabeth and Bryony are polar opposites but their unexpected friendship has always worked. They're the best of friends, and godmothers to each other's daughters - because they both trust that the safety of their children is their top priority.

One little secret

Little do they know that they differ radically over one very important issue. And when Bryony, afraid of being judged, tells what is supposed to be a harmless white lie before a child's birthday party, the consequences are more catastrophic than either of them could ever have imagined.

Every parent's worst nightmare . . .
