It is an alternative quiz because the questions are novel, quirky and inventive. This is the quiz for those who think naming the mother of the woman who runs a pub in some soap opera you’ve never heard of, or who won some cup in some sport you don't follow, are boring questions.

About The Sunday Alternative

If you're looking for a good time, look no further than The Sunday Alternative! We're a bunch of secular legends who meet monthly in Reading to celebrate life.

We're about Living Better, Helping Often, and Wondering More, and we do it for one reason only - to make the most of this one life we've got. We're a diverse bunch of characters, so you're bound to meet some cracking new mates.

Our mornings are chock-a-block with singing, games, interesting chats, and scoffing cake. Plus, it's inclusive - we welcome anyone, no matter their age or background. It won't cost you a penny, if pennies are hard to come by, as we run entirely on donations.

If you're feeling peckish, we've got that covered too. Just come early, which is the best way to meet new people, grab a cuppa, and tuck into some homemade vegan-friendly treats.

Doors open at 10:30 am for teas and chats. The Assembly begins at 11 am and ends at about 12:15 pm. Then more coffee and cakes until 1 pm. After we find a pub or go for a picnic.

Why I Love This Song is a monthly discussion meetup where we each explain why we love a particular song.

Each participant chooses 1 song and sends it secretly to the meetup host, who then sends the complete playlist to all the attendees. See below for previous songs that we've already discussed. Find something new!

The group aims to learn more about music and each other. This is not a music critique group. It is a learning and appreciation group.

What happens

Before the meeting:
Each participant sends a song of less than 10 minutes long to the host (on sign-up). Instrumental pieces are also great. Unless a participant already knows a song, each must be listened to at least 3 times by each participant before the meeting.

At the meetup:
For each song, we first try to guess who chose it. This is just for fun.

The chooser then explains why they picked their song. The reasons can be emotional - it connects them to a time, place or person - or its lyrical meaning, an analysis of what the song does musically, or its history and why it is important societally.

Once the person has explained their choice, the floor is open to ask questions and to share observations.

No one can criticise or mock another's song choice. If you don't like a song, this is the perfect time to learn why others do and gain a new perspective.

If you've a song in mind you think others won't like or understand, that's the song to choose. Make it special.

I severely limit the number of people who can take part, and it's a popular meetup. If you change your plans, you MUST let me know, as I will remove previous no-shows from attending again.
