August Assembly: Supporting our Trans Neighbors

Details

Right now, the trans members of our communities are particularly vulnerable. From access to medications and healthcare, to legal status, to social acceptance, they are faced with challenges to simply living a life.

That's why we're excited to host Kasey of Equality NC this Sunday. Equality NC's work covers many LGBTQ issues but has come to focus on trans issues during this frightening time.

Kasey's going to share her expertise on two fronts. As a previous state congressional staffer in Raleigh, she will bring her insights into the legal outlook for trans North Carolinians. As an outreach organizer and lgbtq advocate, she'll be sharing how to better connect to and speak with people who are skeptical or hateful of trans people.

As we say, Sunday Assembly is a place that is radically inclusive. Sometimes that means celebration, and sometimes that means support. Come out to strengthen our community around these members.

(Please note that we start at 10:30, so please plan to arrive before then.)

Kids welcome!
There's a children's playroom adjacent to the venue's main room, and a small playground just outside.

What happens at an Assembly
Most Assemblies hit these highlights:

  • Pop music with our band (singing along is encouraged!)
  • Some light conversation with an icebreaker question
  • Our main event
  • Some smaller segments on science, news, and meaningful readings
  • More music!
  • Snacks and chats

Parking at Pacifica
We recommend parking along Hanna St. There is handicapped parking in the small parking lot off the roundabout, with more around the back of the venue.
