Let’s take Metrolink and the Coaster to San Diego for the Chinese New Year Fair!
We will take the train to Oceanside, Grab a picnic lunch to go, take the train to Santa Fe Depot and find our way to BalboaPark for the Chinese New Year Fair.

We’ll take IEOC 1857 at 8:40am to Oceanside. In Oceanside we will have roughly 1 hour between trains. In this layover time, let’s get save some time and $$ avoid lines and grab a “lunch to go” and picnic in San Diego or eat on the train. Beach Hut Deli and/or Jersey Mikes are my recommendations and they are both near each other and the Oceanside train station. You might also want to get food at San Diego Chinese New Year Fair. Feel free to pack your own lunch and, bring a snack for before or after lunch.

Note IE/OC trains we will be taking originate in San Bernardino and do not go to Union Station they go only as far north as Orange. If you live near San Bernardino, Riverside or feel free to join us on IE/OC1857 and return via IE/OC 1860. Check Train Schedules | Metrolink for stations and times.

We’ll connect in Oceanside with Coaster 674 @ 10:36am to arriving Santa Fe Depot 11:37am
The Chinese New Year Fair in Balboa Park runs 11am – 5pm Sast Feb 15 Return from Santa Fe Depot Coaster 681 @ 4:40pm Arrives Oceanside 5:42pm IE/OC 1860 @ 6:23pm arrives Irvine 7:24pm

Take advantage of the Metrolink $10 Weekend Day Pass Buy your Metrolink ticket at the station ticket machine -- Hit Buy Tickets, then $10 Weekend Day Pass. Parking at Irvine Metrolink is free.
We will purchase our Coaster Regional Day passes at the ticket kiosk in Oceanside. For $15.00 / $7.50 senior Coaster pass will work on the Trolley and any busses we might take too. Our mileage will be ~5 miles. YMMV.

Meetup at Irvine train station Address: 15215 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine, CA at 8:20am. Look for Chris on Platform 2 -- the near side
Pre apply sunscreen, wear a hat, an extra layer, wear comfortable walking shoes we’ll be walking 5 + miles mostly hard flat surfaces with some hills and stairs along the way. Bring a refillable bottle of water for the walk and a snack for before or after lunch. Pack your own lunch if you like.
