Details

ABOUT THE HIKE: The Fullerton Arboretum is a refuge with its ponds and streams, historical house, and meandering pathways among an eye catching variety of some 4,000 native and not-at-all native plant species. This 26 acre botanical garden is a joint project of the city of Fullerton and California State University. We will stroll, rather than hike, counter clockwise on the main path heading into the woodlands with a return loop taking in the cactus, succulent, and native Southern California gardens. The distance of our stroll will be a couple of miles mostly flat allowing for some walking in circles.... taking some dirt paths into the interior of the gardens. This is a "hidden gem" that offers stress busting serenity, gardening inspiration and limitless photo opportunities. There is a $5 suggested donation to the Arboretum made on the honor system.

ABOUT THE PICNIC: Picnic tables are located at the entry to the Arboretum, so picnic items will NOT be carried on our stroll thru the gardens. Bring food to share for our potluck. BYOB (beverage) This may be an alcohol restricted area so we will exercise adult discretion and Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

POST HIKE/PICNIC - HIKE: As our Arboretum stroll will be relatively short, you may extend your hiking day with an OPTIONAL walk up to and around Ted Craig Regional Park. This involves taking a one-half mile walk from Arboretum parking to the Park and another 2 plus mile loop around the park and its beautiful lake. The total hiking distance for this optional extended hike will be around 4 miles with minimal elevation gain/loss.
