Hike the Dana Point Strands Beach and Salt Creek Beach

Details

Join us for a brisk mid-week beach hike on the Strands Beach. Shoes optional!

ABOUT THE HIKE: Beginning at the Dana Point Strand Funicular, we go down the stairs to the beach, walk the wet sand to the north end of Salt Creek Beach, return south to the south end of The Strands Beach, then return on the sand and 165 stairs to the parking lot. This advanced beginner hike is 3.8 miles with approximately 200 feet of elevation gain/loss, with most of the hike on hard pack wet sand.

These are some of the most beautiful beaches in Orange County, adjacent to some of the most expensive real estate in the world, including the Ritz Carlton Hotel. We finish the hike at our bluff side parking area, with magnificent 180 degree views of the Dana Point Headlands and Pacific Ocean. Plan on about 90 minutes of hike time. Dogs are not allowed on the beach.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 5 Freeway, exit Crown Valley Parkway west toward the coast, left on Pacific Coast Highway, right on Selva Road. Turn right into the parking lot for Strand Vista Park. Turn right to the north end of the parking lot, next to restrooms and the beach access trail. Parking is FREE.
