Pacific Crest Trail to Kitchen Creek Falls

We take a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail that is located south of Pine Valley and north east of our Lake Morena campsite. This is 4.6-mile out-and-back single track trail, with almost one thousand feet of elevation gain/loss. Access to the falls is an off trail use trail with some rock scramble descent. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it take two to three hours to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.

Know your limits. In June the day time temps are usually mid 80's. Please bring additional water or hydration with electrolytes.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Orange County, take Interstate 5 south toward San Diego.... past Del Mar take 805 south.... take Interstate 8 east approximately 45 miles.... tale the Buckman Springs Road exit.... turn right onto Buckman Springs Road.... turn left onto Old Highway 80.... proceed approximately 2 miles to an unmarked parking area on the right, shortly before the Boulder Oaks Campground. Adventure pass required. Distance from Orange County is approximately 120 miles. Drive time is approximately two hours. Consider car pooling to make the trip part of the adventure.
