Details

Join Susan, Randy and Sunrise to Sunset Hikers for a scenic ride up the Palm Springs Aerial Tram and hike on the Round Valley Loop to Hidden Lake and a beautiful desert overlook.

ABOUT THE TRAM: You will be making your own tram ticket purchase for the 9 am departure on 8/2/25. The ticket prices are approximately $37 for adults and $34 for seniors 65+. Order your tickets ASAP as space on the tram is limited. You may purchase tickets on line using the following link:

This is an amazing ten minute, 2.5 mile ride from the desert to the pines, gaining almost six thousand feet, with the upper tram station at approximately 8,500 feet. Restrooms are available at both the lower and upper tram stations. The upper station also offers a full bar and restaurant open to the public.

ABOUT TH HIKE: After taking the tram ride, we will meetup at the back exit of the upper tram station on the patio and proceed down to the Ranger Station to obtain our Wilderness Permits. Restrooms and picnic tables are available at the Ranger Station. This is an intermediate level, five mile hike, with over 950 feet of elevation gain at an altitude of between 8,500 and 9,500 feet. Plan on about three to four hours of hiking time at a moderate pace. We will be hiking as a group with a sweep. From the Ranger Station, we will take a counter clock wise loop hike on the Round Valley Trail, to the High Trail, to the Willow Creek Trail, to the Hidden Lake and Desert Overlook spur, and back the Willow Creek Trail to the Ranger Station. This is a well maintained, single track trail with mountain/desert views along a seasonal creek, high mountain meadows, and through beautiful pine/oak forests. Weather can be "variable" with temps 20/30 degrees below what is forecast for Palm Springs, making this an ideal summer hike. This is one of the most popular trails in San Jacinto State Park.

POST HIKE CELEBRATION: Bring plenty of hydration and snacks to enjoy on the trail. Hikers have been known to celebrate with refreshments at the top of the tram following the hike.

DRIVING DIRECTION: Take Interstate 10 East toward Palm Springs.. exit at highway 111 and proceed 8 miles toward Palm Springs... turn right on Tramway Road and proceed about 3 miles to the parking lot for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Station. There will be an $15 parking fee per car at the toll booth. Restrooms are available at the lower and upper tram stations. PLAN TO BE AT THE PARKING LOT, PARKED, AND IN THE TRAM STATION BY 8:30 AM to get on the 9 AM tram.
