Pickleball (Intermediate)

Details
ABOUT THE GAME: Men/Women doubles play. Intermediate/Advanced beginners only. You need to get your serve in the court in one try and know how to keep score! We rotate players after every game, so everyone plays with everyone. We adjust the points needed to win each game so as to minimize the sideline wait time. We play as guests of residents in the community, on a converted tennis court. FREE play. We play to win, but laugh a lot!
Additional note: You must be a Sunrise to Sunset Hiking Meetup member to RSVP this event. No guests. Please RSVP only if committed to play. No shows and late cancellations are not cool.
Please park at the lower level of the complex in the back on the right and walk up the concrete path to the upper level and courts.
ABOUT PICKLEBALL: The sport has been around for over fifty years. One summer day in 1965 three dads on Bainbridge island, Washington heard their kids complaining that they were bored with nothing to do. The men decided to take things into their own hands and they invented a new game using the badminton court that Joel Pritchard had on his property along with ping pong paddles and a wiffle ball they borrowed from a neighbor. The three men came up with a version of the current game. At first players would hit the ball over the net but then they decided to lower the net so they could hit a variety of shots including low drive shots and they designed some stronger wooden paddles and made some new rule changes. The adults ended up playing the new game more than the children but nowadays people of all ages are having fun. One of the moms named the game for a rowing boat that is the last to depart with only the crew chosen as leftovers from other boats. The founders named their dog "Pickles" in honor of the game, although some believe the sport was named after the dog. Pickle ball is now the fastest growing sport in America!
