Join us for TrainDay2LA: NOT CicLAvia Heart of LA on Sun 10/12/2025!
Join us for a unique chance to walk across the iconic 6th Street Viaduct when it’s closed to car traffic! On Sun 10/12/2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, we’ll explore select parts of the CicLAvia “Heart of LA” route, including the 6th Street Viaduct and a vibrant section of Little Tokyo. Instead of following the full CicLAvia route, we’ll take detours to skip Skid Row and stroll through the Arts District on our way to Little Tokyo. We’ll enjoy lunch at TASTE Food Hall at Fig & 7th before walking back to Union Station. Expect a total of 6-8 miles of walking by the end of the day.

While bikes are welcome on the Metrolink (look for cars with yellow bike decals), this meetup is focused on walking as a group. If you’d like to bike, you’re welcome to join us for the train ride, but biking will be on your own and not part of this event’s itinerary. Let’s make it a fun day exploring LA together!

We’ll use the Metrolink $10 Weekend Day Pass which transfers to all Metro rail lines for seamless exploration. I plan to use the LA Metro, so if you are not using the Metrolink Weekend Day Pass, you will need a LA Metro TAP Card - Transit Access Pass

This event will have no sweep to bring up the rear (unless I have any volunteers) and bathrooms may be limited so stay together or know how to get back to Union Station with Google Maps!

🚶‍ What We’ll Do:
• Take Metrolink from Irvine to LA Union Station
• Take Metro A line to Little Tokyo, transfer to E Line and go 1 stop to Mariachi Plaza We will not walk the route through Skid Row with scenic detours: 6th Street Viaduct (bypassing Skid Row), Arts District, Little Tokyo
• Expect to walk 6-8 miles throughout the day, with flights of stairs possible along the way
• Grab eats from nearby vendors or food trucks among the event offerings
🕓 Schedule: Outbound – Metrolink:
• 🕐 9:00 AM: Arrive Irvine Train Station (15215 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine, CA), get your ticket, and Meetup on Platform 1 the far side look for Chris
• 🕐 9:21 AM: Depart Irvine Station on Metrolink OC 1661 (feel free to hop on at other stations)
• 🕙 10:34 AM: Arrive at LA Union Station
• 🕙 10:45 AM: Meet at Union Station West in front of Starbucks and Wetzel’s (Not the Starbucks pickup on the East—nearby bathrooms and water fill available)
Return – Metrolink:
• 🕔 4:27 PM: Depart LA Union Station on Metrolink OC 1668
• 🕕 5:36 PM: Arrive back at Irvine Station

Meeting Options:
• At Irvine Station Platform 1 the far side (or meet onboard Metrolink OC 1661 from Irvine)
• Or at LA Union Station in front of Starbucks/Wetzel’s after we arrive ~10:40am
