We welcome scuba divers, freedivers, mermaids, and other lovers of aquatic recreation to join us for social events!

Community Pool Session: Social Scuba, Freediving, and Mermaid Pod

Commonpoint Queens' Central Queens (Formerly known as Central Queens Y)

Calling all scuba divers, freedivers, and merfolk! Come splash around with our dive community! There will be music and pool access for you to hang out and socialize in the water.

Social Scuba:

  • Meet other scuba divers in the community! (This is NOT an instructor-led lesson.)
  • Current enrollment in class or Open Water Scuba Diver certification is required to attend this event.
  • If you need to rent a cylinder to use for the session (Aluminum 80L), please Venmo @superdive or bring cash ($20/cylinder).

Freedivers:

  • Come work on your freediving skills alongside other freedivers! (This is NOT an instructor-led lesson.)
  • Basic Freediving certification (any recognized agency) is required to attend this event.
  • Each breathhold requires a proper breathe-up, recovery, and direct 1-1 supervision by another certified freediver.

Mermaid Pod:

  • A mermaid certification is not required to attend, but this is a social event, NOT a lesson. We recommend attending a Mermaid 1 Class if you would like to learn the basics of mermaiding with an instructor.

Scuba Diving Workshop: Finning

Jamaica High School

This workshop focuses on improving finning techniques for better control and efficiency underwater. Students will learn how to use different fin styles and how to choose the right fin for their diving style. They will also learn about proper finning techniques, including flutter kick, frog kick, and modified flutter kick.

Please note: All participants must be scuba diving certified.

Freediver Training: Three Week Progressive Program

Jamaica High School

Develop and Enhance Your Freediving Skills in this Progressive Training Program!

This four-week training program runs from May 21st, 2023 to June 18th, 2023 (skipping the Sunday on Memorial Day weekend), and is open to certified Freedivers. Together we will help you increase your static and dynamic apnea, increase your CO2 tolerance, and go over other freediving skills! Please note: You must be enrolled in the full program to attend weekly sessions (see here for sign up information: https://www.aquap.network/courses/freediver-training-program)

Some included features:

  • Weekly edited video footage review of training
  • Weekly personal coach feedback
  • Personal performance log and insights
  • Suggested practice plans in between training sessions
