BioEmbroidery with Laura Tandeske

Details
Every Third Monday of the month, come celebrate the intersection of art and science with Mario Gabiati - science educator, and Laura Tandeske - award-winning artist and career scientist, at our monthly art-science mash up at the Bay Area's premiere professional maker space, Circuit Launch! Join us in person or online at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82761546064
Meet new friends with similar interests and learn how to rep your nerd pride with cool embroidery designs on your jeans, jackets, or anything else you'd like to decorate! No experience or materials necessary! Each month we will share new designs like 'The Atom", or the chemical representation of psilocybin or caffeine, that you should be able to complete during the class, but we also encourage you to bring a piece of clothing that you can work on month-after-month into something truly spectacular. We even have microscopes and other scientific tools to help you find something that inspires you to create!
All of the materials are being generously donated by the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, so you can just show up and join the community! This class is, however, sponsored entirely by class attendees and other donations, so we encourage you to donate $10 so that a future student can enjoy your wonderful gift of education!
Art is communication, and it is more important than ever to communicate about science! It is also important to show that scientists are multifaceted people who are just like everyone else - science and art are for everybody! We can create beautiful art and study/teach science at the same time through some designs we provide, or bring your ideas and we can help turn them into beautiful custom embroidery art! Embroidering on clothes is highly encouraged! We will have equipment loaned from the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, but if you are experienced please bring your own tools! If you have never stitched before you are most welcome and instruction in embroidery will be happily provided!
Featuring Laura Tandeske, a woman who competes and WINS art competitions with her unique pieces in fiber art, stone mosaic and paint and who also has 30 years of experience at Chiron/Novartis as a specialist in protein purification! Check out some of her pieces here: http://www.lauratandeskemosaic.com/home.html
