About us
This group organises walks that are fun, "educational", but above all sociable. We will do walks around vineyards, stately homes, palaces. We'll have themed walks combined with a boat trip, an evening dinner, or perhaps even a stroll around a "haunted village". We also plan to have atleast 2 international walks a year. The walks will be between 6-15 miles and will incorporate time to view the scenery, network with fellow walkers and spend time at a pub or a restaurant during the day.

It is your responsibility to inform the event organiser about any relevant health condition & to ensure you’re personally satisfied with any agreed actions relating to it. We recommend you take out appropriate insurance for any activities/travel that you engage in.

You consent to us using images of you or taken by you and put on the Countryside Hiking Meetup or Social Media pages like Facebook for advertising and promotional purposes in any medium we choose. You grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable licence to use such images. If you do not wish this to happen please advise us in writing or by confirmed email (where we reply to confirm that the photo/s will not be used) within 10 working days of the trip.

Start time: 11.10 am Leigh station
End time: 16.00 pm (approx can be earlier) Penshurst station
Join us for a hike through quintessential English countryside known as "The Garden of England". We'll walk along the idyllic River Medway, pass stately homes, castle houses and follow parts of the amazing Eden Valley.
Highlights:
Walk along the banks of the River Medway and through woodland paths and vineyards
Hike through the "Garden of England" an area steeped in History
Pass Chiddingstone Castle House, St John The Baptist Church and follow the
Eden Valley through rolling countrysidePenshurst Place (a large medieval manor house), Oast Houses, Salmans Manor

STATS
Distance: 9.6 miles (15 km)
Terrain: A few short ascents and descents (210 metres ascent and 210 metres descent) otherwise mainly flat
Pace: Brisk (But with a number of stops along the way)
TRAIN
Both stations have links back to London & London Charing Cross. Check using http://www.trainline.com
CAR
Leigh and Penshurst are on the same train route (adjacent stations 4 minutes away) so car drivers can take the train back from Penshurst to Leigh (4 minute trip)
PARKING
There is parking available on the road leading to LEIGH station
PUB STOP
At the end of the hike we can stop at the Little Brown Jug behind Penshurst station. The trains run only ever hour on the week-end so depending on what time we finish we'll have either a shorter or a longer pub stop. If you like you can have a late pub lunch there as well.

This is a new hike for the group through some of Surrey's most scenic countryside. It's a long one so you need to be fit to attend, but well worth joining if you can
HIGHLIGHTS
Walk past a a plethora of quintessentially English countryside cottages, farms and houses
Gaze upon a unique set of horse sculptures perched on a hill top
The quaint and picturesque River Wey with its colourful barges
The delightful Winkworth arboretum with its amazing lake and boathouse
Walk past fields and gardens of bluebells and other flowers
Pass the field area called Pushkin place where Peter The Great once stayed
Farms with bee hives, Belted Galloway cows, Lelyn Sheep and Mangalitsa pigs
The Philips memorial park celebrating the life of the wireless operator on the Titanic

Ascent: 700 metres (A few steep inclines & a number of smaller ascents)
Pace: Brisk
Time: Allow 7 hours for the hike, lunch, stops, sightseeing

There are toilets at the station. Our route is mainly in the countryside. Toilets are scarce
