About us
This meetup advertises events in Surrey about history. It promotes meetings of its own and of local history groups, some online, some physical and some hybrid (both online and physical). During the Corona virus crisis we organised the Lockdown Lectures, a series of online talks delivered via Zoom.

Zoom Talk: “Elizabeth Barton – The Maid of Kent” by Melanie Gibson-Barton
·OnlineOnlineTonight, we hop over the county border and back into Tudor times with Melanie, who’ll tell us of a young visionary of Aldington in Kent was so dangerous to Henry VIII, Ann Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon that she had to be executed in 1534. The talk includes the work of artist Lauren McMahan.
Please note that the speaker prefers to use her own Zoom for talks, so arrangements are different from usual:

Zoom: "A History of Spying Gadgets and Methods" by Melanie King
·OnlineOnlineThis talk will cover the gadgets and methods spies have used across the world and throughout history. It was inspired by the speaker’s recent visit to the Berlin Spy Museum–if you haven’t been there, it’s highly recommended. We’ll be hearing about some of the wildly creative schemes, and just plain weird devices, creative people from Britain, America, Russia, Germany and elsewhere have devised over the years. I’m sure some of the engineers and scientists amongst our membership will have a few questions!
