About us
This meetup advertises events in Surrey about history. It promotes meetings of its own and of local history groups, some online, some physical and some hybrid (both online and physical). During the Corona virus crisis we organised the Lockdown Lectures, a series of online talks delivered via Zoom.

Talk: "The Iron Industry in the Weald" by Richard Morgan (Leatherhead)
Oddfellows Hall, 51 Bridge Street, KT22 8BN, Leatherhead, GBRichard studied at Liverpool and Leeds Universities, then worked at geological consultancies and marine / airborne geophysics industries, largely spent in the pursuit of oil and gas, although occasionally looking for cannons in the Caribbean. More recently, Richard ran his own oil and gas exploration business.
Since retirement the history of natural resource exploitation in the Weald area has been a focus of interest, particularly the role of the region as a principal iron producing area in the 15C to 17C. This seems at odds with the way the area looks now, although the legacy of those times is all around us.Please come along! Free tea, coffee and biscuits at half-time
