A talk describing the importance of the Dockyard to the Royal Navy and its recognition as one of the centres of the Industrial Revolution.
Martin, our speaker, started work in the Merchant Navy, and this early exposure to the people and places of the world that kindled his interest in history. He followed this up by doing a part-time BA followed by a part-time PhD in Modern History with the Open University. He has worked at Canterbury Christ Church University as a Senior Lecturer and Principal Research Fellow, and is an Associate Lecturer with the Open University.
