About us
Surrey Young Walkers (SYW) is a friendly walking and hiking group aimed at people in their 20s-40s, based in and around Surrey. We put on a range of walks, from 3-mile gentle rambles to 20-mile strenuous hikes. We have weekends away, across the UK and abroad. We also have social meet-ups, visits to local landmarks and sights as well as live music venues, pubs and other activities.
Whether you are new to walking or an experienced walker who is looking for a group to walk with, you are more than welcome to join us on any of our walks.

Take 2: a second attempt at putting on this circular walk starting from Alton station before heading out via the historic medieval village of Hartley Mauditt, before progressing onto Selbourne. We make our way up the famous zig zag and onto selbourne common. Working our way back towards Alton we complete this circular walk.
It is a longer one than normal, in part to help those in training. We will be maintaining a steady pace throughout the day.
There will be a toilet stop at the base of the Zig Zag path. Lunch will be at the top of the ZIg Zag on the common. Starting from Frensham Great Pond, we shall make our way across the common towards the Little Pond before continuing along our path towards Tilford. Working our way back via the other side of the pond we shall complete the figure of 8 forming the route.
There will be toilets available at the Little Pond, along with a small selection of food and drink from the cafe. Please bring food with you to ensure you have enough for the day.
