What we’re about

Extreme Abuse and Complex Trauma Support Group

Our group is intended for survivors of complex trauma and extreme child abuse. If you are here, it’s likely that most of who you are and what you have experienced in this life is actually invisible to most people––to family, society, coworkers, and the people who are around you.
We are a peer-led group of survivors creating opportunities for ourselves and others to share our experiences, share support, and build relationships in community together. Survivor experiences might include: incest, child sexual abuse, child trafficking, and other extreme experiences of people living with traumatic dissociation, dissociative identity disorder, and complex PTSD.

What to expect at your first meeting:

We ask that new people connect for 15 minutes on the phone or on zoom with a facilitator before coming to their first group. If it is determined that we are a good fit together, and that being a part of this group may benefit you then we will add you to the email list where you will get a zoom link or an address depending on whether the group is meeting online or in person.

Currently, we are offering a monthly in person group at 3:00pm on the first Sunday of the month. Joining the group is free of charge. This is a drop in group with no commitment requirement. The only criteria for joining the groups is that you are a survivor of trauma and that you agree to abide by the group’s community guidelines and relational agreements which you will get a copy of before attending the first meeting.

The meeting size may vary. If more than 15 people sign up, at that point we will close the group so that everyone can have a chance to share. The meeting will last approximately 90 minutes. Depending on the size of the group, sharing time is generally around 5 minutes, but we don’t use timers. Participants are never required to share. You’re also welcome to choose a pseudonym and you will never be asked for private information. You are welcome to leave at any time.

If you do decide to continue attending, there is an opportunity to be added to a secure text messaging thread where you can continue building community support with others who have shared lived experiences.

The kindness that survivors can share when among others who have survived similar childhood experiences is something we rarely get to experience. Time spent with others who understand even a little bit more about us is a relief. Our hope is to help ourselves and others experience that we are not alone. We wish for our efforts to be a cause of kindness in our own lives and the lives of each other.
