Digital Governance Watch - Real cases shaping Europe's digital governance

Digital Governance Watch - Real cases shaping Europe's digital governance

Over the past year, I've found myself spending an increasing amount of time following Europe's evolving digital governance landscape.

What began as an interest in understanding the EU AI Act gradually expanded into the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act, online child safety, platform accountability, AI ethics, and the broader governance questions emerging from the rapid pace of technological change.

Along the way, I realised that some of the most valuable insights don't come from reading the legislation (I do not even pretend to have read the Acts completely). The insights come from watching what happens when regulation meets reality.

A court ruling. An enforcement action. A compliance decision. A product launch. A policy initiative. Sometimes, a single case can raise questions that aren't immediately obvious from the text of the law.

I've found myself asking questions such as:
- What does this case reveal about how regulation works in practice?
- What governance or ethical questions does it raise?
- Does it expose an implementation challenge, an unintended consequence, or perhaps a blind spot?
- What might it tell us about the future direction of Europe's digital governance?
These are questions I'm actively exploring, and I suspect I'm not the only one curious about them.

That's why I'm launching Digital Governance Watch.

The idea is simple: periodically explore a small selection of real-world cases that are shaping Europe's digital governance landscape. No – it is not to provide legal advice or definitive answers. It is rather about understanding what these developments might be telling us and to connect the dots across regulation, technology, ethics, and society.

The first edition will feature a selection of recent cases that I believe raise interesting governance questions and offer an opportunity to look beyond the headlines.

If this is a space you're interested in, whether you work in technology, policy, research, education, civil society, or you're simply curious about Europe's digital future, please join me.

I look forward to seeing you online on 28th August 2026.
