=* # AGENDA =+ Festive Starting of the Recorder
There will be a brief joyful interlude to mark the beginning of the monthly recording of the Zoom session. Recordings will be posted to the SVFIG YouTube channel! =+ Announcements Ting's stuff, storage books, what to do with old computers? =+ Beyond Bitcoin & FORTH BBF003: FORTH everywhere -- even in AI llama.cpp --- Liang Ng
We investigate FORTH like stack machine functions in Microsoft BitNet llama.cpp and propose using Phoscript (a FORTH variant) as the lingua franca interfacing AI prompts (human languages) and conventional programming languages. =+ Screen Shot --- Everyone We'll pause to record the roster for posterity. If you're on the lam, turn off your camera or log out for two minutes. Remember that the whole meeting is recorded for YouTube. =+ Interpreter-free Forth — Turning JIT into AOT Compilation --- Nelo Mitranim
- Freedom of execution: freely mixing JIT and AOT.
- Creating Forth programs without an interpreter or runtime.
- Ending the split between interpreted and compiled languages.
- (Not a "turnkey" approach.) =+ Enter Chuck Moore --- Kay Lack
Telling a little story I've researched on the start of Chuck Moore's career — his work at the Smithsonian Observatory. Even as a young man we can see his minimalist approach at work. =+ Primeval Forth on the Web --- Brad Nelson
Chuck Moore's first first "FORTH" to bear that name ran on the IBM 1130.
Remarkably, due to the preservation work of the great community around the IBM 1130, a usable copy of this Forth still exists!
I've built a Web based emulator that anyone can use to give it a spin.
I'll discussing building the emulator and the internals of Chuck's "primeval" Forth. https://flagxor.github.io/forth1130/ =+ Alternatives to FORTH.CoSy . Are there any ? --- Bob Armstrong
A comparison of simple computations with Python , some APL , and any other environment someone puts forward .
I welcome any challenges anyone may have in any language between now and Sat.Apr,20260425 . =+ Random Access, Round Table, Replays, Ad Hoc Forth Day after-action review. What was your first Forth? On what platform? Trade shows, public outreach. Elevator pitch for Forth / printing a bookmark list of resources? Meeting locations from history, Chabot, ABI, Dyson Wedge, Cogswell, …? We need a list! =+ ADJOURNMENT
The recording will be stopped without festivities. Good fellowship and conversation can continue in our tastefully furnished Zoom Room. =+ Coming next month: >TBD --- Bill Ragsdale (Tentative) =+
