http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/c/6/a/event_93640042.jpegWriting concurrent programs that can run in multiple threads and on multiple cores is crucial but daunting. Futures provides a convenient abstraction for many problem domains. The new book "Composable Futures with Akka 2.0" discusses Akka futures and the parts of java.util.concurrent that underlie the Akka futures implementation. Unlike Java's futures, Akka futures support transformations and sophisticated callbacks. The presentation will be based on selected material from the book. Code examples in Java and Scala will be shown. For more information on the book, and a table of contents, please visit http://slinnbooks.com/books/futures/
