March for Science Silicon Valley

11 AM MARCH START: SAN JOSE CITY HALL
NOON RALLY: PLAZA DE CESAR CHAVEZ AT SILICON VALLEY COMIC CON’S FREE OUTDOOR FESTIVAL.

The March for Science Silicon Valley will start at 11 a.m. at San Jose City Hall and culminate in a rally at Silicon Valley Comic Con (http://svcomiccon.com/)’s free outdoor festival at Plaza de Cesar Chavez starting at noon. The family-friendly festival and rally will include science-focused educational activities and opportunities for nonpartisan advocacy for evidence-based policy. Experts in climate change, coding, astrophysics, STEAM education, local politicians, celebrities and more will speak. Participants in Silicon Valley Comic Con may also make surprise appearances.

SVCC is happy to support the March for Science (and all initiatives to support STEAM education, science advocacy, etc), but asks that we respect that the outdoor festival programming and activities will continue immediately following our rally. Marchers are welcome and encouraged to stay to enjoy the outdoor festival’s tech demos, artist alley, live music, food trucks, beer & wine and more. The rally will be followed by 1:30pm performance of Off the Top: Neuroscience With Attitude! by science rapper Baba Brinkman & neuroscientist Dr. Heather Berlin, then a dog cosplay contest in partnership with Rocket Dog Rescue (at 2:30pm).

Mission and Core Values

On April 22, 2017, we will come together in San Jose and around the world to March for Science. We take pride in the fact that Silicon Valley is home to a diverse community of scientists, engineers, enthusiasts, and innovators. We:
Celebrate Science!
Advocate for nonpartisan, evidence-based policies.
Make science and science education accessible to the public.

Core Vision
The March for Science Silicon Valley celebrates the crucial role science plays in driving our economic growth, preserving our environment, and protecting the health of our citizens. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for policymakers to champion and fund science that upholds the common good and to advocate for evidence-based policies in the public interest at the local, state, and national levels.
We support the core goals and vision put out by the national March for Science: https://www.marchforscience.com/mission-and-vision
