Torrey Pines Gliderport to Cabrillo National Monument
Details
By popular demand, we are going to Cabrillo! Going to Cabrillo all the way from Carlsbad is a bit of a ride, though, so groups A & B (fast and moderate riders comfortable with 40+ mile rides) will be starting/finishing at Torrey Pines Gliderport. Please park somewhere along Torrey Pines Scenic Dr and meet up at the cul-de-sac just before the Gliderport entrance (more room to assemble there without getting in the way of cars).
C group (cycling newcomers and/or those desiring a casual pace with re-grouping) will start/finish at Torrey Pines Gliderport (NOTE THE CHANGE) along with the A/B.

A & B groups route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6533445Starting/finishing at Torrey Pines Gliderport, A & B groups are doing the same route at different speed (go A if you don't have a slow gear, go B for a more humane pace). It's a scenic 45 miler with about 2000 ft of climbing. We will ride through Mission Bay onto OB Bike Path into Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs before climbing up relatively steeply to the spine of Pt Loma on our way to Cabrillo National Park with sight-seeing detours onto Pt Loma Nazarene University campus and Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery. If you still feel studly enough when we get to Cabrillo, you can work off some more calories going down and up the famous Tidepool Hill (.8 mile at nearly constant 8% grade). Return trip include a secluded route through the Wooded Area into La Playa, Liberty Station before catching the Pacific Hwy back to re-trace the first part of the ride (so, if you are a fast rider, hold it in and stay with the group, 'cause once you get back on Pacific Hwy you know how to get back and can just take off at full speed).

( Will try to update route to reflect change in starting point **)
Starting/finishing at Torrey Pines Gliderport, this is a 40 miler mostly out-n-back route along Mission Bay, OB Bike Path into Ocean Beach, then up the gentlest Pt Loma climb along the peninsula's spine (Santa Barbara St) to Cabrillo. We will most likely be taking the most direct route to/from without detours to keep the distance close to 40. Expect re-grouping and a casual pace.
Please bring:
- At least one spare inner tube and frame pump or CO2 canister (threaded is best).
- At least one large water bottle and some snack for self.
- If you have a National Park Pass or a Cabrillo Park Pass, please bring it! If not, please make sure to have $3 with you in case there are more of us than the passes cover (one pass is good for 4 riders. If not, entry fee is $3 per 4 riders and is good for 7 consecutive days from purchase date).
- Your cellphone.
