Talk – Dealing With Asynchrony in a Synchronous Swift World

Asynchronous operations are all around us: waiting for user input, network traffic going back and forth, etc. At the same time, we live in a world with the arrow of time pointing firmly in one direction. How do we deal with Swift code that executes in a (mostly) straight line when there are so many side tangents and threads to wait around for? Callbacks? Futures? Spinlocks? In this talk, we'll look at these and other options for dealing with asynchrony in a synchronous Swift world.

Look for the door-person standing outside the building. He or she will guide you up.

Getting there:

• 5-minute walk to the King St. Caltrain station. 20-minute walk from the Powell St. BART Station.

• The building entrance is next to the parking garage.

• Bike Parking: You're welcome to bring your bike inside, but you'll need to carry it to the 2nd floor.

• Please note that the building doesn't have an elevator so the venue isn't handicap accessible unfortunately.
