What we’re about

SwingColumbus is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit educational and social organization founded in 2001. We are dedicated to the preservation, study, teaching, enjoyment, and continuing evolution of swing dance. This refers to (but is not limited by) a group of American Rhythm dances stemming from vernacular African American dances that developed with swing jazz music of the 1920s through the 1940s. Social swing dance is identified by 6-beat and 8-beat patterns.

SwingColumbus is a community-driven collaboration of people who love to swing dance. All organizers volunteer their time to run dances, teach workshops, DJ, maintain the web site, and communicate with the public about upcoming events. SwingColumbus is a not-for-profit organization and all income from events is used to keep swing dancing growing in Central Ohio.

SwingColumbus Membership

Being a member of this Meetup does not yet make you a paid member of SwingColumbus. We are a not-for-profit organization that uses our weekly dances and membership dues to subsidize our larger weekend and workshop events. Paid memberships last the calendar year and include discounts for all SwingColumbus events.

SwingColumbus Events

We offer weekly dances, progressive lesson series, and occasional weekend events. We have a competitive dance team where paid membership dancers audition to participate, and a performance team open to all dancers who can swing out.
