Mridul Khanal – What It Means to Think Like a Business Owner
As developers, we’re responsible for delivering quality code — but responsibility is not the same as accountability. Ownership is about being accountable for outcomes, not just outputs. And when you think like a business owner, those outcomes look different: survival comes first, so the focus is on revenue, growth, and retention — not just features. In this talk, we’ll unpack the difference between responsibility and accountability, and why adopting an ownership mindset can transform the impact of your work. Through real-world stories, we’ll explore cases where technically brilliant projects missed the mark, and others where behind-the-scenes improvements drove huge business value. You’ll learn how to connect your work to business priorities, communicate in terms leaders understand, and make decisions that move the needle. If you’ve ever wanted to increase your influence, choose the right problems to solve, and think beyond the ticket in front of you — this talk is for you.
