Stoicism in Practice: Dichotomy of Control. OVERNIGHT HIKE Berowra

Details

Stoicism in Practice: A series of events where we can put stoic principles into practice IRL.

The Dichotomy of Control: An overnight hike provides a perfect real-life scenario to highlight this Stoic principle; you can't control the weather, wildlife, or the terrain, but you can control your preparation, your attitude, and your actions.

Meeting Location: Berowra Station
Brunch 10am
Start walking promptly at 11am

Join us for an overnight hiking and camping experience designed to put Stoic principles into practice. This isn't just a walk; it's an opportunity to test our resilience, embrace discomfort, and focus on what we can control in a real-world setting.

The Journey

  • Day 1: Berowra Station to Berowra Creek Campground (8 km)
We'll begin our journey with a Brunch at a local cafe near Berowra Station before we set off.
  • This is a great chance to meet everyone and have a meal together, lightening our packs for the walk.
  • The hike itself will be a moderate 8km, taking us through the beautiful bushland of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
  • We'll set up camp at Berowra Campground, where we'll aim to get a campfire going and discuss the Dichotomy of Control.

Day 2: Berowra Campground to Mt Ku-ring-gai Station

  • After a night of sleeping outdoors, we'll pack up and complete the final leg of our hike to Mt Ku-ring-gai Station.
  • Everyone to make their way home from here, some may need to catch train back to Berowra Parking Station.

Disclaimer & Important Notes:
This is NOT a guided hike. Every person is responsible for their own safety, equipment, and survival arrangements. This event is suitable for people with overnight camping experience and a good level of fitness. Please ensure you have all the necessary gear for an overnight trip, including a tent, sleeping bag, water, and food (in addition to our pre-hike brunch). We will have experienced campers joining us, but please be self-reliant. We will be sharing the campfire, but everyone needs to bring their own food and cooking gear.

Other information:

  • There is a train from Central Station to Berowra at 8.48am from Platform 8 - arriving at Berowra Station at 9.36am
  • Train from Mt Kuring-gai to Berowra is 6 minute ride, every 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday.
  • There is a parking station at Berowra and no parking available at Mt Kuring-gai Station.

ALTERNATE OPTION: you are welcome to camp overnight with us without hiking. Berowra Creek Camp ground is a 30 minute walk from Crosslands Reserve Car park https://maps.app.goo.gl/tWfZXnu8oRtrJMNP9
