This topic was suggested to me by a visiting friend when we were discussing Table Conversations. It was immediately apparent that this is a worthy topic when my friends (a lawyer and a teacher) and I immediately began an animated conversation about the merits and pitfalls of "free speech" and "free expression". The teacher stressed that, as a teacher, it is imperative to be impartial when addressing students because many students will adopt the teacher's expressed opinion (and bias) without question. The lawyer was equally adamant that, in the classroom and elsewhere, people need to be exposed to differing, strong and even offensive opinions in order to develop critical thinking skills and that the teaching of those critical thinking skills should be mandatory.
Are people just too sensitive or have we realized that words and actions DO matter?
In this age of political correctness, Donald Trump and the Westboro Baptist Church, where SHOULD the limits of free speech and expression be established - or should there even BE limits?
We hope that you will join us!

Please bring something edible to share if you are able. We'll have coffee and tea available and lively discussion for all!
